The man hunters of Borneo. |
|
Very few hunters can boast that they have had the honour of hunting the ultimate prey -- man himself !
In the glorious theatre of war, I myself have shot or bayonated several enemy soldiers. I have also had the unique and satisfying pleasure of taking part in and observing a man hunt. Tracking his spor and finally shooting him.
Whilst serving as an Officer in the Royal Marines I was sent to Borneo to hunt down a renegade band of communist rebels that were waging a terrorist war of barbarity on the remote villages of the jungle region.
After several weeks I was having no success. The rebels killed hapless villagers and then drifted away silently into the jungle. I was unable to locate them. I was at my wits end !
One evening as I sat around my camp fire bemoaning my futile attempts to find and catch the dastardly rebel communists.
Suddenly a bloody severed human head landed near my feet, thrown by a short dark figure standing in the shadows.
I recoiled in mild suprise and glanced up at a grinning naked Dyak tribesman who was stood before me. The Dyak are a fearsome race who can track any creature anywhere, day or night.
The Dyak said the head belonged to a commie rebel and for £50 he would hunt down and behead the rest for me. I gladly agreed to his terms but insisted that I acompany him on his hunt.
The Dyak tribesman and myself went off in search of the rebels. Over many days we moved through the jungle like stealthy cats in search of our quarry. We located the rebels and as they attempted to flee, day by day my trusty Dyak silently and skillfully polished them off and removed their heads with his trusty machete. The last remaining rebel was in an fearful abject funk and ran insanely through the malaise of dense jungle in a vain attempt to save his cowardly red soul. I insisted upon being allowed to kill this brute myself, which I did by shooting him in the back as he fled. The brave noble Dyak then hacked off his head.
Cruel deeds but not altogether uneccessary. The man hunt and its barbarous end had given me an experience which I can now look back on with great joy and contentment.
