Can you train miniture Dachshunds to tree coons? |

I was wondering if you can you train miniature Dachshunds to tree coons?

Yes you can train your dog to tree coons but it isn’t advisable as they aren’t very good at this type of hunting. They are the best when it comes down to squirrel hunting. Be careful when you train him, make sure you start his training when he is still very young because when he gets older he is almost impossible to be trained. Also, taking into consideration that he is a hunting breed, he must be properly trained to get along with dogs and cats otherwise he might consider these animals prey. His training should be game-oriented and food-based as he doesn’t respond to any harsh training method.

The Dachshund is not a tree dog and I wouldn't waste my time on trying to make him a coon dog. They are normally used to go to ground. They are exceptions to everything. But if I wanted to tree game that go up a tree then I would go with a breed that is a tree dog such as the hound, feist or cur.
