Escaped Panda made good hunting |
|
Last year I made an emotional return to the once beautiful unspoilt Natagami province of China. For those unfamiliar with this now heavily industrialised region, Natagami was until recently a paradise of forests, meadows and clear bright rivers and lakes.
Since the Chinese nations emergance from communistic tyrany, the once beautiful landscape of Natagami has been transformed into an industrial wasteland of steel works, coal mines and manufacturing factories pumping out vile poisonous smoke and pollution !
The population has exploded and as a consequence most of the wildlife is alas no more.
The only wildlife that can be found is in the cramp archaic zoo in the main city of Xia.
One morning during my visit I was informed by the Hotel Manager that a fire had damaged the zoo and several animals had escaped and were roaming the grim streets of Xia !
What a god send ! I managed to cojoal a semi automatic pistol from the a friend who is a leading state official and together we went in search of some hunting.
To my delight we came across a Panda rumaging amongst some refuse. I calming approached the creature and shot it from 20 yards. I am one of the few people to have shot a Panda bear, and with a hand gun no less. What an amazing achievement !!!
A short while later we spotted a Ibsens ox and with great difficulty despatched that also in a hail of bullets. This particularly pleased me as there are less than 50 of these magnificent beasts leftin the world !
Both myself and my Chinese chum were lauded in the local press for our brave actions. Forgive my vanity but I was quite the hero for the rest of my stay !
Who would have thought that such an opportunity would present itself in such an unlikely manner. I guess I was just in the right place at the right time.
