Negatives of Deer calling ! |
|
I read with interest how a fellow member was musing on the most effective method of calling deer.
I must relate an unsavoury experience I had last year whilst participating in my annual stag hunt in the Scottish Highlands.
Each year myself and several old school chums compete to bag the largest Stag of the glens in the remote Kilgally estate.
One dear pal who prides himself on his ability to lure the biggest Stags to his gun was bragging how he would again win our annual competition.
He boldly marched away to hunt his quarry with his trusty Stag horn. I could hear him tooting away in the distance followed shortly by the familiar ring of a rifle shot.
To my horror my pal had been so convincing in his attempt to mimic a Stag that he had accidently lured a simple minded poacher who had mistakenly shot him. The poacher like the craven coward he was, ran away and abandoned his victim.
My friend was fortunately not killed and only recieved a glancing but painful wound to his right leg.
This year the limping sportsman will not be using his Stag horn when he takes to the field.
