A thief in the camp ! |
|
Each year on the glorious twelfth I go grouse shooting and being an excellent marksman manage to bag several hundred of the feathery little blighters. I pay some local crofters to pluck them and then I send them down to my estate. Some I donate to the local Orphanage, others I pass around to friends and business aquaintances. The rest are consumed by myself and my household staff.
It came to my attention that 50 birds were unaccounted for ! The Butler and the Cook could offer no explanation for the dissapearance. It was obviously theft.
I rigged up a covert video camera and discovered that one of my Grooms was stealing the birds from the freezer and selling them to a local Butcher.
Of course I sacked him immiedietly and had him charged by the constabulary. He recieved a paltry 6 month jail term. The Butcher a mear fine of £150. Justice ? I think not.
I have learned from the sad sorrowful experience. Next year I will sell the surplas Grouse and donate the money to the charity.
